Project Zero G: Building an Ultralight Ruger Precision Rifle!

Introducing Project Zero-G

Obviously we love the Ruger Precision Rifle, but let’s face it…after carrying it at a match all day it feels like maybe it should come with a set of wheels to haul it around. Well, we’re gonna try to fix that.

Not just because carrying extra weight kinda sucks, but because we want to use our RPR in one or two of the NRL Hunter precision rifle series matches. And to do that, we need to lose some weight, a lot of weight, like 4 “oh my gawd” lbs kinda weight.

We have to come in at 12lb or under including the bipod and scope to make the Light Open division! Sure, we could shoot it in our standard configuration at just under 16lbs…but did we mention we hate hauling all that weight around all day? Besides, it gives us an excuse to get a little crazy with some carefully thought-out milling, get some new parts and even try some crazy-cool carbon experimentation.

Frankly, we don’t know if we’ll be able to get there but we’re gonna give it a shot. Follow along with us on social media and YouTube as we go down this proverbial rabbit hole to see if we can shed the weight, maintain accuracy and not lose any fingers in process!

Who knows, maybe we’ll see a future Catalyst product out of this.  Let us know what you think!
